Elfreth's Alley is the nation's oldest, unchanged and continously inhabited residental street. Named for Jeremiah Elfreth, owner of several properties, it was home to carpenters, printers and other craftsmen. Walking down the 6 foot wide cobblestone street past brick row-houses provides a glimpse into the 18th and early 19th centuries.
